Spring’s here—and if you’re like us, you’re already thinking ahead to next season. Before the woods green up too much, it’s a great time to give your hard-sided blind a little love. Here’s a quick checklist I run through every spring to make sure everything’s solid and ready to go.
1. Bug Bomb It
If it’s been sitting all winter, odds are something crawled in. Start with a bug bomb or fogger to clear out spiders, wasps, or anything else that might’ve set up shop.
2. Sweep It Out
Grab a broom and sweep out leaves, dirt, or anything the critters dragged in. A quick vacuum isn’t a bad idea either if you’ve got a cordless one handy.
3. Clean the Windows
A lot of guys forget this one, but dirty windows can mess with visibility and shooting lanes. Wipe ’em down inside and out with a glass cleaner that won’t leave a residue.
4. Check for Storm Damage
Walk around the blind and check for cracks, leaks, or anything that might’ve taken a hit from winter wind or falling limbs. Better to fix it now than during the rut.
5. Tighten Screws & Bolts
Give the whole structure a once-over—especially if you’re using a tower. Tighten up all hardware and check your anchors too. Wind and time can loosen things up more than you’d think.
6. Look for Hives or Nests
Before you climb in, poke your head around the roof and corners. Birds and wasps love to sneak in during the off-season. Clear anything out before they get settled.
A little maintenance now means fewer headaches later—and a better season overall. If you’ve got a Shadow Hunter blind, you’re already ahead of the game. Just keep it clean, tight, and ready.
